Owl Eye

For me this was a great drawing to work on. For the simple fact that they are my favorite type of bird. They are such incredible animals and stand above other birds for so many reasons. I think i've watched every nature show that has ever been made on owls, they fascinate me. They are not like other birds, let me talk a bit about them so you can understand why its my favorite.
The biggest why i find them so fascinating is their stealth flying. This feature is mainly on nocturnal owls are it helps them with catching prey without scaring them off. These birds fly without making any sound. Its something that makes them successful hunters and its just so cool. Their wings are wide, their bodies are fairly light and its feathers are unusually soft and fluffy. The trailing feathers on the back of the wings are tattered and this is what gives them stealth flight. The tattered feathers help break up the sound waves that are created as air flows over the wings. Even though we don't hear the noise that birds make when they fly, to prey they are pretty noisy, but the owl doesn't have this problem. Its feathers are serrated and it helps them keep stable in flight. Owls have wide wings, lightweight bodies and unusually soft, fluffy feathers. These features allow them to have a silent flight.
Owls can't move their eyes much because they fixed inside the eye socket. Even though they are known for their great site from far distance, they are far sighted. This means that they can see a mouse jumping around in the distance but they can't see the one that is close very clear, but it can them both. They see great during the day but they're vision works exceptionally well at night. Did you know that owls are the only wild birds that can see blue.
The head of an owl is so flexible that it can turn it 1/3 of the way around. This helps them when they are on the lookout for prey as it gives them a great look of its surrounding area without much movement.
Of all the birds owls have the best hearing. Its so sensitive that it can hear rustling prey under a blanket of snow. Watch this video to see what im talking about. Owl Hearing
Working on this drawing it made me realize how incredibly beautiful their eyes are. Their size makes them look like fine jewels with so much shine and reflection. I will making many more owl drawing since there so many species and each has its own features that sets them apart from the others. If you have any other info that you may like to add or a special experience that you've had with owls contact me. Your article will be credited with your name/website or any other information that you'd like to post. Well i hope you enjoy this drawing and information.
