The iconic bald eagle. This incredible creature stands for many things and has inspired courage around the world. Many stories have been told about the bald eagle i find it them so interesting what they represent to different cultures. There is an old legend that all eagles can look straight into the sun. According to the translation of St. Augustine "The sun invigorates the eyes of eagles, but injures our own." Athapaskan have portrayed the eagles as taking away famine from people. It tells the story of a prince who gave an eagle a salmon because the times were good and there was food in abundance. During a time of famine, the eagle repaid the prince by dragging salmon,sea lions and eventually whales to the shores for the kindness that they prince had shown. Its probable that these legends came about from the sight of seeing adult eagles carrying food to their young. It amazes how it has come to be known as such an inspirational animal.
A brief description about the bald eagle. The bald eagle was once common throughout North America but it can now be found mostly in the northwestern British Columbia/Alaska coastal areas. They habitat close to rivers,lakes and coast lines as this keeps them close to their main food source, fish.
Like it was mentioned, their diet consists of approximately 60% fish. The feed on the dead salmon after the annual spawn. In Canada they are mostly scavengers.
Eagles, as most birds, have the best eyesight of all animals. The bald eagle has adapted to become a fisherman. It has adapted its eyes to see where the fish is in the water rather than where they appear to be because of the refraction in the water.
